Illinois Woman Injured When Fireplace Exploded on Restaurant Patio

A woman from Lindenhurst, Illinois, is filing suit over a fireplace explosion that took place while she and her husband were dining on a restaurant patio. The incident took place in September 2020 at Anastasia's Restaurant & Sports Lounge in Antioch. The lawsuit filed on Friday in Lake County court states that the woman suffered an injury to her Achilles tendon and required surgery because of the incident. The lawsuit against the restaurant seeks at least $50,000 in damages.

GEICO Must Pay $2.7M to Injured Bicyclist After Refusing $30K Settlement

The Georgia Supreme Court has ruled that GEICO must pay $2.7 million after it refused to settle a bodily injury claim. The case involves in bicyclist who was injured when she was struck by a driver in February 2012. GEICO, the insurer of the driver who struck the plaintiff, refused to settle the claim for $30,000. Following the high court's ruling, the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals is expected to order GEICO to pay the jury award in favor of the plaintiff.

Judge Tentatively Rules Against Former Congresswoman Katie Hill

A tentative ruling has been issued dismissing a defendant in a "revenge porn" lawsuit filed by former congresswoman Katie Hill. The plaintiff filed suit alleging nude photos of her were published without her permission. In the recent ruling, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Yolanda Orozco tentatively approved removing Salem Media Group, the owner of the website RedState.com, as a defendant in the complaint.

Woman Sues After Being Forced to Flee Lyft Through Window

A California woman has filed a lawsuit against Lyft citing an incident in which a driver locked her in his car. According to the lawsuit, the driver took the plaintiff onto a dark side street without explanation and then locked her in the car. The plaintiff then fled out the window, while the driver attempted to close the window on her. The lawsuit against Lyft comes as the company is facing a "mass tort" lawsuit by dozens of women who allege they were sexually assaulted by drivers.

Baltimore Police Department to Blame for Woman's Death in Chase, Says Lawsuit

The family of a woman who was killed during a police chase in Baltimore, Maryland, has filed a lawsuit against the Baltimore Police Department. The 28-year-old woman was killed when she was struck by a woman fleeing police in a stolen vehicle. According to the lawsuit, the police department gives officers too much discretion in such situations. The lawsuit was filed this week in U.S. District Court.

Mother Speaks For First Time About Infant's Death in Daycare Vehicle

The mother of an infant who died after being left in a vehicle by a Florida daycare worker is speaking publicly for the first time about the loss of her child. "He never took the time to turn around...If he had turned around, it would have made a big difference," said the mother of the man charged in her child's death. This week, the 58-year-old driver was sentenced to a combination of jail time, probation, and restrictions regarding his contact with children. The mother of the child has filed a lawsuit against the driver and the daycare center.
